Since 1923, Tilcon’s Plainville, Connecticut quarry has played a vital role in building infrastructure around our state. As a leading supplier of construction material mined from the highest grade of trap rock in Connecticut, Tilcon has supported the construction of  superior roads, buildings and bridges across Connecticut. Along with being a regionally vital source of construction materials, Tilcon is also a major employer in central Connecticut. Today we employ over 800 individuals in jobs across the state.

Although our current operations have allowed us to meet present demand for building materials and has helped us sustain our over 800 jobs, Tilcon’s Plainville quarry faces resource challenges for the future and, as currently configured, will be exhausted and unable to operate.

With our Plainville quarry approaching the end of its lifespan, it has become necessary to develop a plan that will allow us to sustain this important resource.  This plan, as currently designed, proposes the expansion of Tilcon’s quarry operations onto 131 acres of land, which is adjacent to our present quarry. This proposed expansion would allow us to continue operations at our current location and would offer significant economic, environmental and natural resource benefits to the New Britain, Plainville and Southington communities.
