Commitment to Education

“Watch that Child” has been the company’s creed for decades and communicates Tilcon’s commitment to safety.  This company creed is found on Tilcon trucks and mobile equipment.  We believe this strong message underscores our commitment to the future and safety of Connecticut children. Tilcon and its employees have established relationships with local schools:

  • Tilcon employees make presentations on the quarry operations at local schools.
  • Tilcon hosts approximately 10 tours for schools and other organizations annually at our Plainville Quarry.
  • Each year Tilcon invites the public to an Open House, an event that is intended to be fun and educational with a tour of the quarry, games for kids, and various informational tents.  In 2007, the Open House was held at the Plainville quarry and approximately 800 people attended.
  • Tilcon award’s “Good Citizenship” college scholarships to students at nine high schools in the state.
  • Tilcon supports safe graduation nights for Plainville and New Britain high school students
  • Tilcon helped to create the video “The Science of Making Concrete: From the Jobsite to the Quarry.” The video can be seen on the CT Science Centers’ website (www.ctsciencecenter.org) as part of their Science of Building series under the Learning Connection program. The Learning Connection program is used as a resource for educators to assist them in teaching their students scientific principles.
